“dharma” is a 1978 Hatteras 53 Yacht Fisherman with a functional original factory cockpit. Hull number 318, she represents one of Hatteras Yachts’ most respected 53-foot platforms and remains notable for retaining much of her original configuration, with no major alterations or modern refits by prior owners. The current owner has maintained that character while enjoying the vessel for family cruising in Florida. Current ownership has also continued to invest in the vessel’s upkeep and onboard functionality, including engine repainting, a new starboard-engine starter, a new GE refrigerator, a new Moen galley faucet, a new Pioneer 43-inch TV, and the addition last year of a Craftsman 3300i portable generator, a West Marine 12-foot aluminum-floor inflatable, and a 9.9 HP Mercury outboard. Detroit Diesel engine service is current, and maintenance, repair, and parts-installation records from the past five years are available for buyer review upon request.
In April 2024, the vessel was hauled for running-gear service, including replacement of cutlass bearings, rudder-shaft seals and bearings, both engines’ water intake valves, all zincs, and application of bottom paint, Petit Prop Coat to the running gear. Mechanically, the engines are reported to be running well, with hour-meter readings of 833 port and 842 starboard; they were also overhauled at an earlier point in the vessel’s history. The original Onan 15 kW generator is currently not operational.
This yacht will appeal to the classic-yacht enthusiast seeking an authentic Hatteras with restoration potential, as well as to buyers who value the highly desirable three-stateroom, three-head layout for extended seasonal cruising or comfortable liveaboard use.
Not a charter vessel or liveaboard, the yacht presents with a clean interior and no unusual cabin odors. Among 53 Hatteras Motor Yachts currently offered for sale, only two are believed to feature the desirable factory cockpit configuration. The owner is now motivated to sell and will consider reasonable offers.
This vessel also comes with the InterMarine Exclusive Delivery Package, which includes hands-on captain training, comprehensive systems orientation, ongoing after-sale service support, and eligibility for Fun Escapades.
